About Screen Records
Screen Records is a native Mac screen recorder with a built-in editor. Founders, tutorial makers and teachers use it to turn a screen recording into a demo or lesson ready to post, and the file never leaves their Mac.
What Screen Records does
You record your whole display, one window or a region, with camera, microphone and system audio. The recording opens straight in the editor.
There you cut the pauses, add zooms where the clicks happen, put captions and text on top, or hold a key and say one sentence again. Then you export an MP4, a GIF or just the audio. It is free to use with the full editor; free exports carry a small badge that a license removes.
What makes Screen Records different
- 01
12.1 MB installed
Screen Records is written in Swift with no browser engine inside. When we measured them, Loom was 863.5 MB installed, Screen Studio 653.0 MB and Cap 380.4 MB.
The measurements and method - 02
$29 once, no subscription
One Mac costs $29 and the license keeps working without a renewal. Screen Studio publishes $9 a month billed annually, which is $108 every year.
Screen Records vs Screen Studio - 03
Nothing is uploaded
Recordings and projects stay in a folder you choose on your Mac. The app contacts our server for license and update checks only. Loom keeps your recordings in its cloud.

An AI assistant can do the editing
A built-in MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor open a project, cut the pauses, add zooms and captions, and export the video.
Edit with AI - 05
Every source on its own track
Screen, camera, microphone and voiceover stay separate, so you cut or mute one and leave the rest alone.
The editor
Who uses Screen Records
- Solo founders and indie builders who need to record a product demo or launch video without booking a video editor.
- Hackathon teams who need to get a watchable demo out in the last hour before judging.
- Tutorial makers on YouTube and course platforms who need to record a lesson, fix one flubbed sentence, and add captions.
- Teachers and conference speakers who need to turn a slide deck into a video the same day.
- Developers who already work with Claude Code or Cursor who need to hand the editing to an AI assistant.

The team behind Screen Records
Maryna Klokova, founder
Maryna built Screen Records because every Mac recorder she tried was either a 400 MB Electron app or $15 a month for a trim button. She wanted one native app where recording, editing and export happen in the same window, and where fixing one bad sentence does not cost the whole take.
Questions about the app reach her at support@screenrecords.app.
