Privacy Policy

Last updated August 26, 2026

Screen recordings capture whatever is on your screen. That is exactly the kind of data that should not be sitting on someone else's server, so the app is built to keep it on your Mac.

The short version

  • Your recordings and projects stay on your Mac. We never receive them.
  • We do not require an account, and we do not ask for your name.
  • We store your email and license status so you can restore a purchase.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see your card number.
  • Diagnostics are only sent when you explicitly export and send them.

Recordings and projects

Recording, editing and exporting all happen locally on your Mac using Apple’s system frameworks. Projects are written to a folder you choose. Nothing about a recording — not the video, the audio, the transcript, the project name, or the file path — is transmitted to us or to any third party.

If you upload an exported file somewhere yourself, that service’s privacy policy applies to it, not ours.

License and payment data

When you buy a license, we store:

  • the email address you used at checkout;
  • the plan you bought and its seat limit;
  • Stripe customer, checkout session and payment identifiers;
  • an anonymous install identifier generated by the app, plus a one-way hash used to recognise the device — never a serial number or hardware identifier we can reverse;
  • activation and last-seen timestamps for each activated Mac.

We keep this for as long as the license is valid, because it is the license. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never reach our systems. Stripe acts as an independent controller for payment data under its own privacy policy.

What the app contacts us for

  • License verification. After a purchase, and periodically afterwards, the app asks our backend whether the license is still valid and whether this Mac is activated.
  • Update checks. The app fetches a small version file to see whether a newer release exists.

Both requests carry the install identifier and device hash described above, and nothing about what you are recording. If our servers are unreachable, a previously verified license keeps working from its local cache.

Diagnostics

The app can export a diagnostics bundle containing app logs, your macOS version, and which permissions are granted. It is written to a file you choose and is only ever sent if you attach it to an email yourself. It does not contain recordings, project contents, or file paths outside the app’s own storage.

Website analytics

This site uses privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics. We record page views and a handful of events — download clicked, pricing viewed, checkout started, checkout completed, restore requested, support opened — along with the referring site. We do not set advertising cookies, do not build cross-site profiles, and do not sell data to anyone.

Email

We send transactional email only: purchase receipts, restore links, and replies to your support messages. There is no marketing list to unsubscribe from, because we do not run one.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask us to delete it. Deleting your license record invalidates the license, so we will confirm before doing it. Email support@screenrecords.app and we will reply within 30 days.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the release notes.
